Away for the weekend

Just a quick update to say that Claire and I leave for Bristol tomorrow (Friday) morning. We won't be back until Monday evening, so there won't be any updates until then, or possibly Tuesday morning.

Unfortunately we don't have the seats we thought we had for Tamburlaine and are therefore not in the front row (or in fact anywhere near the front). This is due to some misleading codes on the Bristol Old Vic website. :( I was very disappointed about this when we realised yesterday, but never mind — I'm sure we'll enjoy the play regardless of where we're sitting. We're attending the 2pm performance on Saturday, and I promise to write a review when we return! We'll be sure to pick up a copy of the programme, too, in case there are any new photos of Rachael in it.

Look after the website while we're gone. ;)

Enjoy the play and your weekend!!By the way,did you see the Sunday Independent(10/
    16)interview of Rachael?The clever questions
    elicited such fascinating responses from
    our wordsmith,Rachael!She's simply brilliant!!
There's an interesting caricature of RS as well!

  2. Gravatar

have fun! cant wait for the review :-)
Oh! did anyone hear the news that RS might be in the running for wonder woman, (still bit iffy but keeping eye on it )??

  3. Gravatar

wonder woman? (methinks RS is definitely a wonder woman…but i wonder what you mean) ;o)

Hi jd..how did you learn about WW?This might be the potentially exciting news Bonnie
mentioned. It boggles the mind just to imagine
Rachael as this character, but being 5'9" and having those long legs;she'd be ideal! Of couse,as an action heroine, there'd be the inevitable comparison to DDR's Emma Peel,
but then,Rachael is always compared to her Mum anyway. If the screenplay is campy and
    tongue-in-cheek,Rachael would be perfection!

    Hey Thel,
What interview was in the Sunday Independent? I googled it and couldn't find anything for 10/16/05. Do you have the url. And btw - sorry about being so bad about getting those pics scanned. Life has been crazy busy. I'll do my best to get them done asap. Thanks again - the articles are great - and I'll send those on too. Bonnie knows I'm a bit behind.

hi all, its from two source's at the mo. joss whedon fansite, apparently he was asked who he has in mind for w.w and he has before mentioned stars he has cast. And the wonder woman fansite. (to ashly me keeping eye on it means i am hopeing, praying it ture!!!! , only thing "iffy" is i heard there are others up for the role, joss whedon been getting alot of interest from other actors)) If she is w.w. i'll be at cinema every day. :-)
And thel you right, she is perfection!

Hi Lucy…how was your trip to the Big Apple?
Did wonder if you had scanner problems.
What's your take on Rachael as an action
heroine?Wouln't she just look great in that
    Wonder Woman outfit?Anyway,I'm quite sure
you will enjoy this interview. It provides such
insight into that fascinating mind of Rachael's!
I found at the Yahoo Rachael Group, post #
    1608;file by emmapeelpants.Missed our
    chats;welcome back!

    Hey Thel,
No, no scanner problems, just no time and then a memory like a seive problems. Thanks for the post # - not quite sure how you get there?? Go to yahoo groups and put in that number?? Anyway, yeah haven't been on here much due to being busy. In regards to Rachael as WW - hmmm …. I think she'd be a riot to watch … just cause you know she won't fit any stereo type out there and she's not the type to take any shit. I just hope the costume doesn't make her look like an idiot - and that people don't take her acting as seriously. After seeing her play different roles - I just can't imagine her doing something so … hollywood. But it would certainly challenge her to work on character acting - and I'm sure she'd have a blast in the role as long as they didn't make her do anything that makes her look like a dumb chick. Gonna try and get those pics scanned today. Talk soon - hello everyone - love everyone's comments.

Hi Lucy…yes go to Yahoo Groups entertainment and key in Rachael Stirling.
Choose the group with 292 members(the others suck). On home page hit messages &
on the next screen enter 1608 in the box. As
    I was driving today,I'm thinking,who else but
Rachael could come up with an analogy
comparing her mind to a public restroom in
Notting Hill? You'll see this and more. What do
    you think of the caricature?

    Hey Thel,
Bombs away - spent most of the afternoon scanning all those pics and articles - they are finally emailed - ALL of them to Bonnie. Thanks again for that.

Oh, and haven't been to NYC yet. Things changed and I'm just heading to North Carolina for 10 days in Nov. Just an easier trip - and my friend there - his partner is in treatment for cancer (yuck) so I'd rather focus my attention there. I'll see my brother another time.

Haven't had a chance to do the yahoo groups thing yet - going out to a friend's house to watch the hockey game - Vancouver Canucks - playing Colarado Avalanche - nothing like hockey with a bunch of dykes yelling at the TV! Gotta love it! So I'll check the stuff out later and get back to ya!

    Cheers

Hi All…didn't realize Wonder Woman was such
a hot topic till I visited the IMDB(WW2007)site!
I've not seen 10 pages of a message board before, but this place is inhabited by opinionated, comic book-reader,would be casting directors. They're all speculating on
    the ideal WW star.Criteria?Height,boob-size,
muscle definition, age, new face vs known face.
    Suggested stars include Jolie,Lawless,Driver,
    Zeta-Jones & Beckinsale.Not one mention
of Rachael but some people did mention a
    minimal height qualification of 5'9".I'm
curious,do you guys think Rachael would
seriously consider taking on this role?If so,this would be her first Hollywood film and
most probably would involve some serious
    physical training!

  12. Gravatar

Wow, don't know what to make of Rachael possibly portraying Wonder Woman. Though I thought that Linda Carter was hot, the scripts were painfully stupid, I could barely watch the show. But now that I'm thinking about it, the Avengers scripts weren't always up to muster either, and Diana always rose above the material- Hmm… actually, Rachael would put definitely a different spin on WW, only one crack of that adorable smile would melt everyone's hearts. I still don't know- could be a Hollywood career-killer if it's produced badly and tanks, but could elevate Rachael to superstardom, both scenarios I'm not sure I like! Rachael herself has always said that she wants to be a working actor, not a red-carpet celebrity. I would hate for her to be chased by papparazi all the time and to feel like she's living in a fish bowl. The producers would certainly have to update the outfit, and of course like Thel mentioned, Rachael has the height and figure for it (though I take a little issue w/ the training part- Rachael's muscles are just fine! Think the love scene in TTV when the camera is on Rachael's back- beautiful! From her riding, I suppose). I guess we'll find out soon enough!

  13. Gravatar

Hi E.B.,I'd be the last person to say that any part of Rachael is not beautiful !She has excellent posture as well!I meant that in order
to be performing super hero feats, some training would be involved:as Hillary Swank did for Million$Baby and Jolie did for Tomb
Raider & Mr.&Mrs.Smith!Aside from riding and
football,Rachael has admitted she is not very
athletic. On the "It Takes Balls" picture,RS is quoted as saying,"I was dreadful at all sports
but I've found my calling in football".I believe
whoever gets this action role will need some
    intense training!

  14. Gravatar

I have to agree with you E.B. you articulate my sentiments exactly about the whole hollywood thing and how Rachael would definitely put a different spin on it - which would be cool - but given hollywood trash - formula stuff (like the Linda Evans version) she might not go over - over here in North America. Yes it could be a hollywood career killer. And yes I agree with Thel that she would have to work out - she does look lovely just how she is - but you know how hollywood wants the kind of perfection normal human beings can't sustain without a paid trainer, chef, and personal coach. Frankly I'd rather see Rachael cast for something else - something that has more depth - if she is to make her mark in hollywood. I think she has too much substance to be the plastic hollywood super hero - that they are looking for. The Avengers' scripts were what you said E.B. but I would say still more tasteful and less fluffy than what I imagine they'll be using for the coming script. Anyway, will be interesting to see. Given the women mentioned in the running, I'll take a stab and say that she probably won't make the cut - and frankly I'd be surprised if she took the job if it were offered to her. She thinks carefully about the parts she takes and how they'll affect her career. But then I could be WAY off base.

  15. Gravatar

Many apologies, Thel! Right after I sent my comment, I figured that was what you meant. You and Lucy are right, the ugly monster that is the Hollywood image machine would certainly send Rachael to Wonder Woman bootcamp, replete with a botoxed, steroid -shooting, pimped out trainer (god, can you imagine??) . Actually, I'm sure Rachael would have a hoot about it, about how ridiculous it all is, I'm sure she'd have her trainer in stitches! Still, I absolutely agree with you Lucy in that I too would much rather see Rachael's first major foray into Hollywood be in a class production, not an overblown plastic comic strip. I would just hate it if our fellow North Americans wrote her off because of it. I admit, I selfishly do want Rachael to have somewhat of a career in Hollywood, just so that we have more opportunity to see her work. But never at the expense of dumbing down, which most of the dreck in Hollywood is. Rachael knows best, though- if she's offered it and wants it, who knows? The outcome could pleasantly surprise us all.

  16. Gravatar

HI E.B.&Lucy,,,I feel we all want what's best for
Rachael and her career;that being said I really want another dvd!If offerred the role,RS may accept as a lark,counter-culture venture. After
all.she already demonstrated her courage when she took on Nancy;a challenging role to
say the least!Rachael's usual research would
involve reading a few comic books! Speaking of comic books,I looked up Joss Whedon, who
has been signed by Warner Brothers to write
and direct WW2007.He's 41,Uk born and moved to LA.He's written for TV,film and writes
    comic books.States he's a feminist."I definitley
think a woman kicking ass is extraordinarily
sexy".Wonder Woman traits?"I'm looking for someone stauesque, regal, beautiful, who can really act and do alot of stunts, with no elbow or knee pads;height is definitley part of the package."Stunts aside,is this not a perfect
    description of Rachael?

  17. Gravatar

Hi, Thel- that is indeed a perfect description of Rachael! And I think she'd handle the training part just fine. What with her riding and footballing, which are both very athletic (though don't know if she's had time to do either these last couple of years!) I think she'd be a natch… remember the scene in Complicity (Retribution) in which her character Claire goes running down the yard at Claire and Andy's house and one-two hops it over the fence? Looked pretty athletic to me! Maybe Rachael equates athleticism with playing sports well, which isn't always the case. I remember finding a snippet of an article on the Net about a year and a half ago in which another gal on her football team (which has since disbanded) mentioned something to the effect of "you should see Rachael Stirling- she's one of our best fielders- she's so elegant, she runs like a gazelle!" Made me want to hop a plane to London to watch her play football! Lucy is probably right, maybe someone with more Hollywood cache will be cast. But Joss Whedon did say that he is interested in casting a relatively unknown, and he may be intrigued by casting a fellow Brit…. still, the tenor of the project would have to change a LOT from the premise of the old show for me to really be on board for Rachael doing it. Regardless, I really hope she does do a Hollywood project in the near future, and I'm hoping for The Final Quest and Another LIfe on DVD for us in region one someday…

Hi E.B. Haven't tried to find Complicity cause
I thought Rachael only had a small part, but did
get a copy of Another Life on eBay.It's a pre-dvd called a "video cd" and it's compatible
with my dvd player. As you can see with Bonnie's screen caps,RS is adorable in this
early film.Found Bait & TTV @ Borders. Re:
Rachael's football team,I recall reading they had to disband becasue the goalie was
pregnant!Did you read the latest RS interview
    (10/16)from The Independent?Every interview
of this woman that I read only confirms her
    talent as a quick-witted wordsmith!Rachael's
honesty and candor are just so endearing! She
describes a Lucien Freud painting as being
mesmerizing & delicious;think she was looking at herself in the mirror! What do you think?

  19. Gravatar

Yes she is definitely mesmerizing and delicious - no question. I'd love to see her play football anytime - if you fly over E.B. - put me in your luggage ok? Re: your comments E.B. about Rachel - I agree with you 100%. You couldn't have said it better. I'll be shocked if she gets cast - she's not "glamourous" enough for Hollywood. She's very glam - but not in the way they want tof marketing a super hero. Hell again - I could be wrong, but I'll be falling off my chair if she gets cast - and if she decides to use that film as her vehicle for a Hollywood debut. Haven't seen those early films … man I need to get with the program. .

  20. Gravatar

Hi Lucy…did you finally get to read the inter-
view?If so what did you think?Ever hear of the
Shanghai technique?Tried to find the Freud
painting Rachael described, but thus far no luck.Interesting artist as well as being the nephew of Dr.Sigmond Freud and still living!Must admit.never seen an episode of
Wonder Woman on TV and do have mixed feelings re:RS in that role.Yes.E.B., also
watching to see if "The Final Quest" will be
released on dvd;love Rachael doing that
    country western song !

  21. Gravatar

Yeah Thel, read everything - pretty bloody cool. Thanks a million. I don't know if Bonnie is posting the "Human Nature" article - but I did scan it and send it - having a proper source is important - maybe she's checking on that. Anyway, yes the interview were way cool. Thanks again. The scans of RS look pretty lovely on the web site eh? Thanks again for doing that Thel. Now everyone can enjoy!

  22. Gravatar

Hey Lucy…..It's Only Human Nature is here !
Thanks for all your scanning….and yes,the pictures are gorgeous;they've had quite a
journey!I'm sure people will enjoy them!
