Interview: I'm Diana Rigg's girl (but don't let on)

Two updates in a day? Unheard of! :)

Thanks again to Maria! Another interview has been added to the site! This is from 2001, but I always quite enjoy the older interviews. All the ones from 2002 or thereabouts are about Tipping the Velvet and can get a little repetitive. This one is quite a good read and has some interesting stuff in it, such as Rachael's reaction to working with Joely Richardson on Maybe Baby (something I've always wondered about as they have scenes together!) and a couple more funny tidbits.

Here Rachael talks about her first week at boarding school:

"The first week we were dragged up to the attic and put through a sort of initiation by the older pupils. The 16-year-olds brought out a tampon and asked what it was. I put my hand up and said it was a candle and they collapsed giggling."

I thought this was quite amusing and cute, too:

"When I got my period I phoned mum. She said don't worry everything's going to be fine. The next day I got a bunch of flowers from her and a note saying "Welcome to womanhood", which was lovely."

Awww.

This interview again illustrates Rachael's keen powers of observation, even at age 24! She surely had wisdom and maturity beyond her years and seemed more than capable of dealing with life's hard knocks! Guess Rachael subsequently had to learn about the insecure, small-minded DJ John… she absolutely deserves a more highly evolved partner!!! Loved the sarcastic one-liners, "….camera up your right nostril", and "My performance was awful. It took me ten takes to walk through a door." Love that honesty and self-deprecating humor. Interesting that Diana sent Rachael
to boarding school after being so unhappy that her own parents had done so with her.

The interview is touching and original indeed! I'm glad I didn't go to boarding school though!
