New play: Tamburlaine

Tamburlaine

We have some fantastic news to report! Thanks to the lovely E.B. (a regular visitor to this site) we have been informed of a new play in which Rachael will be starring in October and November. It is called Tamburlaine, and will run from October 7th-29th at the Bristol Old Vic, and then from November 9th-19th at the Barbican Theatre, London. This is the description from the Bristol Old Vic website:

"Captivating, charismatic and chillingly calculating, Tamburlaine is a man to admire and to fear. Obsessed with elevating himself from his humble origins, he conquers lands and women with brutality and charm. With the throne of Persia behind him, and an eye on the East, he offers us a dark vision of our own secret ambitions and desires. Unrepentant, utterly convincing and disturbingly compelling, Marlowe's stark epic masterpiece is a mirror of our modern world from the distant past."

Rachael will play Zenocrate, who is the daughter of the Soldan of Egypt. It sounds very different to everything we've seen her in before (in fact, each of her theatre roles has been quite different, which proves that she's flexible and can cope with a wide range of roles!) and I'm quite intrigued by it, especially having glanced at the script. From looking at the script it would appear that Rachael has a main part, which is fantastic, although I don't know much at all about the role. There are fifteen cast members in this particular production, and the only one confirmed on the theatre websites is Greg Hicks. However, information about Rachael's part in the play is included on her CV at PFD, which was last updated on September 17th.

I have added information about the play to the site, and this morning we booked our tickets for the Bristol Old Vic — with front row seats! :) We could've waited until November, to see it in London, but we'd quite like a change of scenery and November isn't quite as convenient for us. We've decided to make it into a proper mini-break and stay in Bristol for three nights, seeing the matinée performance on a Saturday afternoon.

Tickets are now available from the Bristol Old Vic website (October 7th-29th) and the Barbican Theatre website (November 9th-19th).

Thank you again to E.B. for notifying us of this. I hadn't checked the PFD site in a while as it hadn't been updated in ages, so I'm really glad you did check it — we may have missed out otherwise. :)

You're welcome, Bonnie- Wow, front row seats, that's fantastic! You and Claire will be able to see Rachael's spit fly (don't know why I always find that so fascinating when I'm sitting close). Yes, it does sound like quite a different part, but I can't imagine a woman finer than Rachael to portray an Egyptian princess! Maybe in a way, this is getting her closer to doing Shakespeare, which she has said she's really wanting to do. Not familiar with Marlowe's prose but I'm sure it's similar to Shakespeare's. What fun, both for Rachael and for you and Claire- can't wait for the report, have a good time in Bristol!

You UK folks are so lucky to get to see Rachael live. I'm so jealous! :o)
