Riot at the Rite news
"The most scandalous bun-fight in the history of the arts took place during a ballet performance on 19th May 1913, which was to change the course of musical and cultural history. Igor Stravinsky's The Rite Of Spring is regarded as one of the most revolutionary pieces of classical music of the twentieth century but when it was first performed, a riot broke out in the audience, partly engineered by Sergei Diaghilev who had masterminded the performance.
Riot At The Rite is a re-enactment of the preparations that led up to the first night, the first night performance in its entirety and the riot itself, with the screen play written by Kevin Elyot (20,000 Streets Under The Sky). The drama will bring to life the nervousness, in-fighting, backstage bitching, jealousies, rivalries and fear of humiliation against the desire for success and celebrity. The ballet will be performed in its entirety as it was first performed by the Finnish National Ballet with the chosen virgin role played by prima ballerina Zinaida Yanowsky."
This is just a little snippet of information from the BBC about the forthcoming production Riot at the Rite, in which Rachael will be playing a character called Marie Rambert, a choreographer. The 90-minute drama will be aired on BBC 2 but we do not yet know when.
