EXCLUSIVE: Rachael Stirling stars in radio play Possession and The 24 Hour Plays; also Christmas concert and more Loose Ends

It's been a while since our last full update, but everything on the website should now be completely up-to-date and accurate as of today. We have added a lot of information to the website, so this is really just a summary of what's new:

We are happy to be able to exclusively announce that Rachael Stirling will be taking part in this year's 24-Hour Plays Celebrity Gala at The Old Vic theatre in London. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the gala, it is a 24-hour event in which well-known actors, directors and writers come together with the aim of writing, rehearsing and performing six original short plays from scratch in just 24 hours. They then perform the plays in front of the gala audience.

The gala will take place on Sunday 13th November 2011 at The Old Vic theatre, London. You can purchase tickets for £250, £125 and £75 from The Old Vic website. As of yet, we do not know who else will be taking part.

We can also exclusively announce that Rachael has been cast as the poet Christabel LaMotte in the BBC Radio 4 play Possession, by A.S. Byatt, which has been adapted for the radio by Timberlake Wertenbaker. It will be aired over Christmas 2011. We will hopefully have more information on that soon.

One thing we neglected to mention earlier in the year is that Rachael did a performance of Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the new RSC theatre in Stratford as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations. Unfortunately it was just a one-off and there wasn't much time to mention it! Rachael played La Marquise de Merteuil.

In other news, on Saturday evening, Rachael appeared once again as a guest interviewer on BBC Radio 4's Loose Ends. She interviewed polar producer Alastair Fothergill about his new BBC 1 series Frozen Planet, which started on 26th October 2011. We have also added a Loose Ends clip from earlier this year, in which Rachael interviewed Hayley Taylor from The Fairy Jobmother television series. You can listen to both of these interviews on the website:

Rachael will be appearing as a guest speaker at the St Dunstan's London Christmas Concert on Tuesday 6th December at 7pm, at St Marylebone Parish Church, along with Kate Adie and Lance Pierson. Tickets are available at £10, £20 and £50 from the St Dunstan's website. All money raised will go to help support blind and visually impaired ex-Service men and women.

Finally, after a few queries, we have decided to re-open the JustGiving charity page as some people wanted to make further donations to Rachael's fund for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Although we have now reached our £5,000 target, further donations are of course accepted and appreciated. Make your donation at http://www.justgiving.com/rachael-stirling and we will leave the page open indefinitely. I have also added a personal message of thanks from Rachael herself to the charity section, so you can see just how grateful she is for all of your donations.

That's all the news we have for now, but please keep an eye on the website for more news about Rachael's upcoming projects. We can now announce that we are affiliated with Rachael Stirling herself, and the website will make the transition to become her official website at some point, so please keep visiting for more exclusive news and a complete revamp of the website! You can also join our Facebook group and follow us on Twitter to make sure you get all of the news as soon as it's announced.

Snow White and the Huntsman

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar-winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

22nd October 2011

SPECIAL FEATURE: Afternoon tea at the Savoy with Rachael Stirling

On Tuesday 2nd August 2011, Rachael Stirling met with Stuart and Julia Raeburn, the successful winning bidders for "an afternoon tea at the Savoy" in our Rachael-Stirling.com charity auction.

The couple donated £440 to the Too Many Women campaign, in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, for the chance to meet and spend the afternoon with Rachael in London, at one of the most iconic luxury hotels in the UK, the Savoy. The prize was to have a luxurious afternoon tea with Rachael, including cakes, sandwiches, and of course the all-important tea! I caught up with Stuart, Julia and Rachael to see how the afternoon went.

The complete set of photographs from the afternoon, taken by Richard Lewis, can be seen in the Events: 2011 gallery.

Stuart kindly wrote a piece for the website about the tea, which you can read here and catch a glimpse into what was a fantastic afternoon for all involved.

What an opportunity. What an Opportunity. Afternoon tea at the Savoy in the company of one of the most talented and beautiful actresses currently on stage and film.

Well, my wife had asked for tea 'somewhere posh' to celebrate her birthday, so where better?!

The bidding was over…

Cometh the day, cometh the anticipation! All sorts of questions flooding the mind — how would we get on? what to wear? what would we talk about? and indeed how would perfect strangers find enough to talk about for an hour or so? or could it just be possible, we would get on like old friends…?

Cometh the hour, we arrived early. (Unusual for us!) We even had time to take the statutory photos — posing with a huge car parked prominently at the hotel entrance… (some anxiety was clearly felt as I later had the sinking realisation of having forgotten to phone in the motor-cycle parking charge now levied by Westminster Council!)

And so to our table… we had scarcely sat down when it was apparent that there was an arrival

"How lovely to meet you both!" seemingly unrehearsed and spontaneous. We felt friends at once.

So what did we talk about?

Rachael's fund raising efforts — the £5,000 target had just been achieved. Her roles so far on stage and screen, and where we had first encountered her on stage (Wiltons), and fallen in love with that wonderful voice and stage-presence. Her current work. Her future roles and what roles she would really love to play. Her just having given up smoking — well done! Her recent holiday, which came with a recommendation we duly followed — thanks Rachael! … and many other things. But it was not all about Rachael as she showed real interest in us and our family, coming across as a person of huge integrity, both in her private and public life, with a hunger for true authenticity in both.

All this was played out in such beautiful surroundings — like a wonderful film-set! — with an unceasing supply of tea, sandwiches, cakes, scones and fruit cake, in which we all indulged our passions.

After all those cups of tea, nature eventually called! and it was only then that it became clear that we had, as Rachael put it, 'spent over two hours gassing'.

So then, 'goodbyes', leaving us to reflect on what was certainly a highlight of our year… and to experience great relief when we found our motor-bike undiscovered by the traffic warden!

— Stuart and Julia Raeburn

I think we can safely say the afternoon was a success and contributed considerably towards our ultimate fundraising target!

Here is what Rachael had to say about the afternoon…

We had a ball and I very much enjoyed meeting the Raeburns. So much so that tea time rolled into early evening, and it was dark outside by the time I left. Stuart kindly offered to buy us cocktails and I was sorely tempted.

Thank you to them both for being such charming company, and even more so for helping us to reach our target.

— Rachael Stirling

EXCLUSIVE: Rachael Stirling has role in 2012 Hollywood blockbuster Snow White and the Huntsman

We have some exclusive, official news: Rachael Stirling has a role in the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster, Snow White and the Huntsman. She will play the part of Anna. We can reveal no further information about the specifics of the role at present, but keep an eye on this website as we will be updating as and when we can confirm more details.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Here is the official synopsis from the Snow White and the Huntsman website:

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar-winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

So far, we know that the cast includes: Kristen Stewart as Snow White; Charlize Theron as Ravenna the Evil Queen; Chris Hemsworth as Eric the Huntsman; Sam Claflin as Prince Charmant; Sam Spruell as Finn, Ravenna's henchman; Christopher Obi Ogugua as The Mirror; Lily Cole as Greta; Vincent Regan as Duke Hammond; Noah Huntley as King Magnus; as well as seven great actors playing the seven dwarfs: Ian McShane; Eddie Izzard; Bob Hoskins; Toby Jones; Eddie Marsan; Stephen Graham; Ray Winstone; and Nick Frost. And, of course, Rachael Stirling as Anna.

This is a really exciting opportunity for Rachael and we are thrilled to be able to announce this news!
