Tamburlaine photo and cast list

Well, Tamburlaine's run at the Bristol Old Vic began last night and the theatre's website has been updated to show a photo of Rachael with Greg Hicks. The words "starring Greg Hicks and Rachael Stirling" are quite encouraging and show that she definitely does have a lead role in the production! Additionally, a cast list has been added to the site and I have updated the Tamburlaine section of the Career: Stage page to include the other cast members.

With any luck there will be some reviews in the national newspapers shortly!

I also did a bit of general tidying around the site, added new members to the fanlisting, and made some much-needed updates to the page about us! The photos of Claire and me were old and the information was very outdated!

New photos and The Truth release date

Kelly Reilly and Rachael Stirling at the 2004 Evening Standard Awards in London

Thanks to Riikka for providing us with some high-quality versions of four of the photos taken at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards last year! I have uploaded them to the gallery. We had the images in the gallery before, but they were smaller, watermarked versions.

In other news, I have been informed that there is now a tentative release date for The Truth! This comes from the director himself, George Milton, who contacted a visitor to this site to let him know. Apparently it will be released on January 6th, 2006, though this is not 100% confirmed at present. Thank you to James for letting us know! I have added it to the calendar for the time being.

I also have some other potentially VERY exciting news, but I won't share it just yet as I'm not sure how legitimate it is. More soon… I hope!

This evening Tamburlaine opens at the Bristol Old Vic, so break a leg, Rachael! That means there are just two weeks to go until we see it. I'm really looking forward to it. :)

Tamburlaine

Tamburlaine is a man to admire and to fear. Obsessed with elevating himself from his humble origins, he conquers lands and women with brutality and charm. With the throne of Persia behind him, and an eye on the East, he offers us a dark vision of our own secret ambitions and desires. Unrepentant, utterly convincing and disturbingly compelling, Christopher Marlowe's stark epic masterpiece is a mirror of our modern world from the distant past.

Rachael played Zenocrate, who is the daughter of the Soldan of Egypt and Tamburlaine's love.

Interview: I'm Diana Rigg's girl (but don't let on)

Two updates in a day? Unheard of! :)

Thanks again to Maria! Another interview has been added to the site! This is from 2001, but I always quite enjoy the older interviews. All the ones from 2002 or thereabouts are about Tipping the Velvet and can get a little repetitive. This one is quite a good read and has some interesting stuff in it, such as Rachael's reaction to working with Joely Richardson on Maybe Baby (something I've always wondered about as they have scenes together!) and a couple more funny tidbits.

Here Rachael talks about her first week at boarding school:

"The first week we were dragged up to the attic and put through a sort of initiation by the older pupils. The 16-year-olds brought out a tampon and asked what it was. I put my hand up and said it was a candle and they collapsed giggling."

I thought this was quite amusing and cute, too:

"When I got my period I phoned mum. She said don't worry everything's going to be fine. The next day I got a bunch of flowers from her and a note saying "Welcome to womanhood", which was lovely."

Awww.

BAFTA screening of Riot at the Rite

If any of you happen to be in or around London on October 18th, there will be a special screening of Riot at the Rite at BAFTA, which is located at 195 Piccadilly, London. The evening will pan out as follows:

18:30 — Reception
19:00 — Screening
20:30 — Q&A with members of the cast and crew

I should note that I highly doubt Rachael will be attending the Q&A session as it's during the run of Tamburlaine in Bristol, but any London-dwellers or keen travellers may wish to attend, if only to see Riot at the Rite before the rest of us!

Tickets are free for BAFTA members, or £10 each for non-members, and can be reserved via the Academy Events page. I've also added this new information to the calendar.
